By Grace, Through Faith, I Stand (Poem)
Empty me of vanity
In both it's fatal forms
That through success I might win you
Or by floundering make you scorn
Tis’ neither through stern resolve
Nor by lackadaisical plight
That you make the rebel your son,
And turn the calloused contrite
By your grace alone I stand
In a righteousness unwrought by me
It cannot be lost by deeds or thoughts
Tis’ priceless, yet given for free
My pride would have me earn your love
And self-focus would have me doubt
Both these would keep me in the grave
But grace shall bring me out
In both it's fatal forms
That through success I might win you
Or by floundering make you scorn
Tis’ neither through stern resolve
Nor by lackadaisical plight
That you make the rebel your son,
And turn the calloused contrite
By your grace alone I stand
In a righteousness unwrought by me
It cannot be lost by deeds or thoughts
Tis’ priceless, yet given for free
My pride would have me earn your love
And self-focus would have me doubt
Both these would keep me in the grave
But grace shall bring me out
