Church Membership

The Christian life involves holy communion with God and his people, the Church. It is not merely an event we attend once a week, or a private venture that we undertake on our own terms. Christianity is a life to be lived for the glory of God each new day within the community of God's people, the Church of Jesus Christ.

It is true that the Church is one globally. Amen! As believers who have been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we enjoy unity with the saints from every tribe and tongue! But it is also true that the one global Church of our Savior has always been expressed through the membership of local congregations. We each have a local responsibility to worship and serve the Lord according to his will within the context of the community in which we dwell.

At Covenant Grace, we firmly believe that church membership is a healthy and integral part of the obedient Christian life. Therefore, we lovingly encourage every person who professes faith to find a faithful local church with which to unite—even if that is not our church. Of course, we would love to have you here! We are eager to do all that we can to help you and your family get connected. But make no mistake, our greatest commitment is not to building Covenant Grace, but rather to loving and serving others in the ways which promote their flourishing in Christ.
